Camphor essential oil is extracted from the camphor tree that is native to Formosa (Taiwan), China and Japan. To produce the camphor that is found in every part of the tree it must be at least 50 years old. The durable and aromatic properties of camphor wood inspired the Chinese to build ships and temples.

Camphor is said to be a balancing essential oil which can sedate the nerves and uplift apathy. It is a warming oil that can help with coughs, flu, bronchitis and feeling the cold. It's also used with great effect to repel insects such as flies and moths.

The therapeutic properties of camphor include antidepressant, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, carminative, diuretic, hypertensive, insecticide, laxative, and stimulant.

Aroma: clear, clean and fresh. Note: camphor oil is a powerful oil and should be used with great care if used in blends for the skin. Do not use if pregnant, suffering from epilepsy or asthma.

Cinnamon is a warming essential oil used for all colds, flu and fevers. It is also thought to help with digestion problems, poor circulation and breathing problems as well as being a powerful antiseptic.

Avena fragrance oils are all high quality full strength oils, which really do have to be sampled to be fully appreciated. Some of the fragrances are delicate and subtle whereas others are strong and very powerful. The standard 10ml size is the smallest we do which are ideal to buy a range for sampling and discovering your favourites. Another great tip is to use a cloth by soaking it in clean water and wringing out so just damp before adding some drops of oil and putting on a radiator if cold or hanging in a sunny window if not. This will give a good fragrance without the worry of a candle, which is especially good if you are in and out or at night and nod off.

Safety- Fragrance oils are not for use on the skin, in skin products or to be taken internally, they are for non-topical fragrance use only. Keep fragrance oils away from children and pets. This triage of warming full strength fragrance oils is perfect for being the much needed blanket to wrap around yourself on a chilly winter day. Avena fragrance oils are all high quality full strength oils, which really do have to be sampled to be fully appreciated. Some of the fragrances are delicate and subtle whereas others are strong and very powerful. The standard 10ml size is the smallest we do which are ideal to buy a range for sampling and discovering your favourites. The bigger sizes of 30ml and 100ml are bottled to order as we are so often asked for larger sizes when customers get to know which they love to use the most so we would always suggest trying a few of the 10ml first as everyone is different.

Our fragrance oils are a blend of natural plant based oils you will know as essentials oils and synthetic compounds, which contain the strong aromas. The oils can be used in home candle making which is becoming very popular as well as making your own wax melts for oil burners and such like. The amount of oil needed can differ from oil to oil and person to person as it does depend how strong you like an aroma and it will depend which of the above you are using it for. If you are making anything such as candles, incense or reed diffusers, please always ensure you know the correct dilutions to use. For the standard candle oil burner 5 – 10 drops in the well with water should suffice but you can add more for a stronger aroma or experiment with mixing some scents together. Another great tip is to use a cloth by soaking it in clean water and wringing out so just damp before adding some drops of oil and putting on a radiator if cold or hanging in a sunny window if not. This will give a good fragrance without the worry of a candle, which is especially good if you are in and out or at night and nod off.

Safety- Fragrance oils are not for use on the skin, in skin products or to be taken internally, they are for non-topical fragrance use only. Keep fragrance oils away from children and pets. Wash hands after use and do not get into contact with eyes. Avoid polished surfaces and use in correct dilutions.

Wintergreen essential oil is potentially toxic and is for professional use only. The oil is extracted from the leaves of a small evergreen herb that grows up to 15cm in height.

The crushed leaves and the oil both have a lovely medicinal smell. Traditionally wintergreen was chewed by the natives of the Americas in order to increase lung capacity and assist in healing respiratory conditions and early settlers chewed on wintergreen to help prevent tooth decay.

As a warming oil wintergreen is often added to ointments to help ease muscle and joint pains or hand creams popular for gardeners or outdoor workers.

The therapeutic properties of wintergreen oil include analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-rheumatic, antitussive, astringent, carminative, diuretic, emmenagogue and stimulant.

Wintergreen is probably best known for its distinctive medicinal minty aroma; if you have used a pain relieving gel or cream with that unique ‘sports rub’ aroma the chances are it had wintergreen in it. The most renowned health benefit of wintergreen is its pain-relieving effects. Our wintergreen ointment is a ready to apply topical balm which is most commonly used for muscle aches and pains, rheumatism and arthritis and sciatica but can also be used to help alleviate headaches, muscle cramps, joint and bone pain, gout, tendonitis as well as being known to be a good skin oil for acne and hair care preventing hair loss and dandruff.

When applied this ointment is readily absorbed through the skin and the presence of the Methyl Salicylate in the wintergreen induces numbness and anaesthetic effect on the nerves bringing pain relief to a specific area. It also stimulates blood circulation around the affected tissues and muscles bringing a feeling of warmth to the skin. By helping to clear obstructions in the flow of blood, which is one of the major causes behind rheumatism and arthritis and not let toxins like uric acid accumulate it has become the ointment of choice for pain relief. Wintergreen also stimulates mental wellbeing and drives out stress and tension making it a great ointment to use at night for those who often lose sleep due to pain or stress.

Wintergreen oil is extracted from the shiny oval evergreen leaves of the Gaultheria procumbens. The low-growing shrub which is part of the Ericaceae plant family thrives best in rich, organic soils and shady locations, such as on mountains or forests in cool, moist regions mainly in Northeast United States and Canada. It also has lovely white flowers, which turn into wonderful bright red berries that birds and other wildlife feast on. Native Americans actually chewed wintergreen when running long distances to increase endurance and their respiratory capacity.

Directions: to use our wintergreen ointment, simply apply a small amount to the affected area twice daily and massage in. Wintergreen it quite a potent oil and it’s recommended that a small amount is applied to a test area should it be a first ever use. It’s not recommended for use on small children and as ever, consult your doctor before using products containing essential oils if you are currently suffering any medical conditions, are pregnant or breastfeeding. Wintergreen ointment is only to be used topically and not on open wounds or broken skin.
